Accessibility  Policy

Purpose

The Canadian Pride Historical Society (CPHS) is committed to eliminating barriers and improving accessibility for all persons in a manner that respects dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity.

Application

This policy applies to all volunteers and covers all CPHS programs, services, and activities.

Procedures

  • The CPHS will develop and maintain an Accessibility Plan, reviewed at least every three years, that will outline the organization's plan to address accessibility and barriers.

  • The CPHS will develop and maintain accessibility guidelines for accessibility requests, accessible communications, inclusive meetings and public events, the use of assistive devices, and engagement of support persons.

  • The CPHS will provide, on request, all publicly available information in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports, in a timely manner that takes into account the individual’s needs and available resources. The CPHS will work with the person with the disability on how best to provide this information with the resources available within the organization.

  • The CPHS will strive to provide barrier-free access to the goods and services provided by the organization.

  • The CPHS will provide both internal and external stakeholders with the ability to submit accessibility requests that will be tracked within a registry.

  • Upon request, the CPHS will offer accommodations to applicants during all phases of the recruitment process and work with volunteers to accommodations for their disability (temporary or permanent) to ensure they are able to perform their volunteer duties.

  • The CPHS will provide training to all volunteers on accessibility principles and how to handle accessibility requests and their responsibilities as it pertains to this policy and the Accessibility Plan.
